SCINEMA names “Darkened Water” best film

14th SCINEMA International Science Film Festival in Australia has selected Alireza Dehqan’s documentary “Darkened Water” as the best film.

The largest Science Film Festival, SCINEMA, has selected Iranian director Alireza Dehqan’s documentary “Darkened Water” (“Owsia”) to be shown in the event. The documentary depicts an aqueduct which provides water for Yazd (a city in central Iran).

This fascinating well-made documentary demonstrates the bad condition of the aqueduct and the fact that it is going toward destruction because of the bureaucratic system and corruption.

The aqueduct in Yazd which is the subject of this documentary is a living UNESCO heritage site that has supplied water for the city for 2,500 years.

SCINEMA, is arranged and coordinated with the help of BBC Earth. This festival is the largest Science Film Festival in the southern hemisphere.

The festival will be held at Palace Cinemas in Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Perth from June 7 to 19.
